Sick Day

Everyone said that I would build up my immune system so much in the first year of teaching that I'd never get sick again.

Not true.

I need to learn my lesson and just refuse to touch hands or pencils that have been in mouths. End of story.

Fingers crossed it's not the bird flu. Last week, one of my students told me to watch out. He suggested getting a face mask. Maybe he was right.

  1. And by bird flu I meant swine flu. Or bird flu. Or just the regular flu.

  2. Brave Bunny sympathizes with your dilemma--when your young charges need some assistance but are ailing with an unspecified ague, avoiding physical content can be very challenging and at times may be interpreted to be somewhat unfriendly and at the worse, callous and insensitive. Further, somehow the wearing of mask and gloves does not seem consistent with the open, supportive environment that some instructors encourage. Perhaps the best method for the maintenance of health would be regular rest, exercise, plenty of fluids, good diet, and lots of hand washing.

  3. Brave Bunny has the right idea: rest, fluids, handwashing. But get a package of masks anyway, just in case there is another run on them.
